Ahly vs. Merriekh Champions League game postponed due to Club World Cup

The CAF Champions League game between Egypt’s Ahly and Sudan’s Merriekh has been postponed by the CAF due to the Reds’ participation at the FIFA Club World Cup, the African football governing body said in a statement on Monday.

The Cairo giants were due to face their Sudanese counterparts on 11 or 12 February in the first round of the prestigious continental tournament’s group stage.

According to the CAF’s statement, the match between holders Ahly and Merriekh will be played on 5 March.

The FIFA Club World Cup will run from 3 to 12 February in the UAE, with Ahly playing their opening game against Mexican side Monterrey on 5 February.

The 10-time Champions League winners Ahly were drawn in Group A of the group stage alongside Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Merriekh (Sudan), and Al-Hilal (Sudan).

Ahly currently lead the Egyptian Premier league table with 19 points from seven games, with one game still in hand.
