Ahly recalled Egypt defender Mohamed Abdel-Moneim from a loan spell at Future FC following his impressive displays at the African Cup of Nations, the Cairo giants said on Sunday.

The 22-year-old was a surprise inclusion in Egypt's squad for the biennial tournament and he was not expected to play a big part.

However, he was given a chance to prove his worth after Zamalek's Mahmoud El-Wensh picked up an injury in the 1-0 group-stage win over Guinea-Bissau.

He scored the winner in the following 1-0 win over Sudan before producing solid displays in the heart of Egypt's defence in the wins over Cote d'Ivoire and Morocco in the round of 16 and quarter-final respectively.

Abdel-Moneim came through the youth ranks of Ahly before spending two loan spells at Alexandria-based club and Future FC.

He moved to top-flight debutants Future FC in the summer on a season-long loan, which will now be cut short.

"Ahly have official recalled Mohamed Abdel-Moneim, who is on loan at Future FC, within the framework of the good relations between the two clubs," the Red Devils said in a statement.

The club also said that, in return, midfielder Karim Walid will have his loan deal with Future FC extended for another year.

Ahly will play without Abdel-Moneim and all of their Egyptian internationals though when they kick off their FIFA Club World Cup campaign against Mexico's Monterrey on 5 February.
