Chaabani joined the Port Said-based club at the start of the current season, leading the team in eight league matches; winning three, tying in four, and losing only one game, ending up in fourth place on the standings table with 13 points.
The 40-year-old was a serial winner with Tunisian side Esperance, steering the club to back-to-back Champions League titles in 2018 and 2019.
He also led Esperance to three Tunisian league titles, but was shown the door in July after the team suffered a humiliating 4-0 aggregate loss to eventual winners Ahly of Egypt in the Champions League semis.
