Egypt’s Pyramids FC and Masry will face tough tests Sunday in the start of their group stage campaigns in the Confederation Cup as they take on Ahli Tripoli of Libya at home and Coton Sport of Cameroon away respectively.

Pyramids FC are aiming for nothing less than this year’s title after finishing runners up in 2020 and semifinalists in 2021.

“The beginning against Ahli Tripoli will be very strong especially because it is our opening game. Beginnings are very important and we want to win because we want to grab the top spot and chase the title,” coach Ihab Galal told the pre-match press conference on Saturday.

The Pyramids are welcoming back injured duo Mohamed Hamdi and Hussein El Sayed to boost their left flank alongside veteran playmaker Abdallah El Said after returning from international duty.

“We have prepared well for this phase as we played several games in the EFA Cup. We have also recovered some injured players and with the return of Fakhreddine Ben Youssef, Ahmed Tawfik and Ramadan Sobhi; hopefully soon we will be at full power,” he concluded.

In contrast, Masry will be missing several key players in their trip to face CotonSport.

Talented wingers Ahmed El Sheikh and Islam Salah and midfielder Hassan Ali have been ruled out of the game due to injuries.

“We are aiming for the victory despite the absence of some key players and the very hot weather. I know Cameroonian football very well as i have played against their teams as a player and as a coach. We want to grab the maximum number of points in our away games to secure our qualification,” Masry coach Moine Chaabani told the pre-match press conference.

Masry are also hoping for medals this season, which was the main reason behind the hiring of Chaabani who won two champions league titles with Tunisian giants Esperance of Tunisia.
