After failing to claim a victory after two games in the African Champions League group stage, Zamalek’s French coach Patrice Carteron said he is confident that his team will win the coming game against Morocco’s Wydad.

The Cairo-based club started their mission in the CAF Champions League group stage with a 2-2 draw at home against Angola's Petro Atletico last week.

Zamalek were again held to a goalless draw on Saturday against Angola’s minor side Sagrada Esperança in an away match.

This significantly complicates their situation going into the next round in Group D.

“I am confident of the players’ ability to achieve a positive result in the game against Morocco’s Wydad,” Zamalek’s coach Carteron said after the second draw.

Zamalek will face Wydad Casablanca in the third round of the group stage at Morocco’s Stade Mohammed V on Friday.

“It is not a matter to give more promises now because it will not be useful as the most important thing now is to start preparations for the coming games,” the French coach added.

Zamalek placed third in Group D with two points after two draws, two points behind leaders Petro Atletico and one point behind runners-up Wydad.

“Zamalek’s chances to reach the quarterfinals are still alive as we played only two games,” Carteron said.

Petro Atletico defeated Morocco's Wydad Casablanca 2-1 on Saturday to go top of Group D.
