Chances were at a premium in the first half but Masry came on with all guns blazing in the second period to break down their illustrious opponents.

Central defender Yasser Hamed put the hosts ahead on 60 minutes when he pounced on the failure of Mazembe's defence to clear a left-wing free kick to volley home from close range.

Elyes Jlassi doubled the lead seven minutes later after some good work from substitute Mohamed Antar, who skipped past his challenger on the left hand side of the area and pulled the ball back from the byline for the Tunisian midfielder to side-foot into an empty net.

Masry, who kicked off their group-stage campaign with an away draw against Cameroon's Coton Sport, are now top of Group C with four points, one ahead of Mazembe.

Third-placed Coton Sport, who have one point, take on bottom side AS Otoho of Congo in the other group match on Wednesday.

Masry took part in the Confederation Cup for four straight years (2017-20), reaching the semi-final in 2018 and the quarters on their previous participation in 2020.
