“We sent an official letter to CAF asking to organize and host the Confederation Cup final at our venue [the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in Cairo],” Pyrmaids FC president Mamdouh Eid was quoted as saying by the club’s official Twitter account on Tuesday.

“Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy and the Egyptian Football Association fully support our request,” he added.

On Sunday, Pyramids earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tunisian side Club Sfaxien in Cairo to maintain their winning run in the African Confederation Cup group stage and edge closer to the knockout phase.

The win kept Pyramids on top of Group A - now with maximum nine points - six ahead of second-placed Club Sfaxien.

The big-spending club is representing Egypt at the Confederation Cu - Africa’s secondary club competition -  for the third season in a row.

Pyramids lost the final of the 2020 edition against Moroccan side RS Berkane, before also losing in the semi-final against Morocco’s Raja Club Athletic in last year’s edition.

Pyramids currently lead the Egyptian Premier League table with 23 points from nine games, just one point ahead of second-placed Ahly, who still have one game in hand.
