Newly-appointed coach Hamad Ibrahim will rue missed chances as Ismaily were held to a 2-2 draw by struggling Maqassa in the Egyptian Premier League on Tuesday, which left them without a win after 11 games.

The 49-year-old Ibrahim, who took over from Argentinean coach Juan Brown last week, seemed on course of steering the team to a comfortable win as Abdel Rahman Magdi and Ahmed Madbouli scored on 14 and 36 minutes to cap an impressive first-half display.

It was a different affair in the second half as Mahmoud Fahmi pulled one back for Maqassa seconds after the break and Rashid Ahmed levelled the score in the 55th minute.

Three-time Egyptian champions Ismaily recovered from that shock though and reassumed control.

Essam Sobhi could have restored Ismaily's lead after they were awarded a penalty but his effort was saved by keeper Mohamed Magdi.

They kept on pressing but failed to break through the compact defence of Maqassa, who defended deep.

In the 85th minute, Ismaily were given another penalty after a VAR check but Magdi fired against the crossbar to deny his side a much-needed win.

Ismaily, who are facing the unthinkable prospect of being relegated to the second division, lie at the bottom of the 18-team table with just four points. They face a mountain to climb if they are to retain their top-flight status.
