Abdel-Ati was shown the door after Pharco exited the Egypt Cup in the preliminary round, having slumped to a surprise 2-1 loss to second-tier Kafr El-Sheikh on Friday.

"Nuno Almeida will lead the team for a year and half," Pharco said on their social media accounts.

Pharco's adventure will mark Almeida's first experience as a head coach. He previously worked as an assistant to Jesualdo Ferreira at Portugal's Sporting in 2013 and Cairo giants Zamalek in 2015.

The 49-year-old also had a spell as an assistant coach at Portuguese side Braga in the 2013-14 season.

Pharco lie eighth in the 18-team Premier League table with 16 points from 12 matches.
