On Sunday, the 25-year-old international player was forced to leave the pitch in the first half of the game amid the 4th round of the African Confederation Cup group stage.
“Scans revealed that Sobhi is suffering from a bruise in his right knee. He needs a rehabilitation program that will last two weeks,” the big-spending club revealed in a statement.
Pyramids FC qualified for the quarters of Africa’s secondary club competition with two matches to spare in their group after Sunday’s draw with their Tunisian counterparts.
Sobhi, who is considered one of the key elements in Egypt’s squad in recent years, is confirmed to miss the World Cup playoffs against Senegal on 25 March at home and 29 March in Dakar due to his injury. Egypt's squad of local-based players for the double test against Senegal has not yet been announced by Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz.
Pyramids FC currently lie second on the Egyptian Premier League table with 26 points from 11 games, two points behind leaders Ahly, who still have one game in hand.
