Luis Miquissone celebrates his winner against Ittihad (Photo: Ahly s official Twitter account)
The diminutive Mozambican winger has struggled to hold down a regular place since joining from Tanzania's Simba last summer, making only five starts in the Egyptian Premier League.
However, his contribution has been valuable as he scored three goals in nine appearances, including a double in a 4-0 win over Maqassa in February.
Miquissone's superb curling strike also proved to be the difference when Ahly defeated Ittihad of Alexandria 1-0 on Wednesday as they maintained their three-point lead over second-placed Zamalek, with a game in hand.
He was taken off eight minutes past the hour mark but his display is a welcome boost for coach Pitso Mosimane, whose only other option of creativity on the flanks is the in-form Ahmed Abdel-Kader.
"We took Luis Miquissone out to fresh up the team. We will be playing three games in seven days so we have to have some rest players," the South African boss said after the game.
Since Ahly were held to their only draw of the season, which came against top-flight debutants Future FC in December, they have chalked up four consecutive wins.
Masry, on the other hand, have stuttered as they sit eighth in the table with 16 points from 12 matches. Their last five matches saw them lose twice and draw three times.
Ahly will miss defensive midfielder Hamdi Fathi and winger Taher Mohamed Taher through injuries.
