Fellow Egyptian side Masry also take on Morocco's RS Berkane in another mouthwatering last-eight clash at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium.

For Pyramids, they were taken aback after the Egyptian national team named Galal as their new boss on Tuesday following the departure of veteran Portuguese boss Carlos Queiroz.

With Egypt's first commitments still coming up in June, there was still time for Galal to lead Pyramids for the last time as they eye a third appearance in the semi-final.

Local reports linked Greek coach Takis Gonias with a return to Pyramids, whom he led for a brief spell last year.

Under Galal, Pyramids fared well in the Confederation Cup group stage, collecting 13 points from six games. They only finished as runners-up because of their inferior head-to-head record to Libya's Ahli Tripoli.

Pyramids are also challenging Cairo giants Ahly and Zamalek for the Egyptian Premier League title.

Galal will be looking to leave on a high note, with the big-spending Pyramids looking to continue their bid towards their maiden crown. He faces a tough last challenge against five-time Champions League winners Mazembe, who topped their group ahead of Egypt's Masry.

Masry, who are buoyed after claiming an upset 1-0 win over leaders Ahly in the domestic league last week, will be looking to get a much-needed first-leg advantage against 2020 Confederation Cup winners Berkane.

They play their home games in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria because their Port Said stadium was demolished last year, nine years following the 2012 football tragedy that left over 70 Ahly fans dead.

"The presence of our fans tomorrow will give all players a big boost. We are seeking to win the Confederation Cup title for our fans," Masry's experienced left-back Ahmed Shedid told the pre-match news conference.

Masry took part in Africa's secondary club competition for four straight years (2017-20), reaching the semi-final in 2018 and the quarters on their previous participation in 2020.
