The 30-year-old Marei told a local TV channel after the game that Masry players are suffering due to not receiving their financial dues, venting his anger at the club's management over what he described as several broken promises to resolve the issue.

The Port Said-based club announced it was imposing the fine in a statement via Twitter on Monday, adding that the player will also be investigated by the club's legal department.

On Sunday evening, Masry achieved a 2-1 home win over RS Berkane in the first leg of Africa's secondary club competition quarters.

Berkane won the 2020 Confed title after beating the Egyptian side FC Pyramids in the final.

Masry will face Berkane away from home in the second leg on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the team currently lie in sixth place on the Egyptian Premier League table with 19 points from 13 matches, 13 behind leaders Zamalek who played one match more.
