Egypt’s Dar El-Ifta praised Mohamed Salah and his Liverpool teammates after the Egypt international posted a video - that went viral - of the Reds celebrating the FA Cup trophy with Moemen Zakaria inside the team's dressing room.

“Humanity before religiosity,” the institution responsible for religious edicts wrote on its official Twitter account late on Saturday, adding that “real humanity is based on  respect for others’ sensibilities and morals.”

“Morals are not limited to sports .. they are a way of life,” the institution concluded.

Liverpool Egyptian winger Mo Salah posted a video and photo on his Instagram from inside Liverpool’s dressing room in the company of his former national teammate, talented winger Moemen Zakaria, who is currently in England to complete his recovery programme from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Zakaria, 34, a former Ahly and Egypt forward, ended his football career in the 2020 season after suffering from ALS, which is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the brain and unfortunately does not have a cure.

The video showed Zakaria sitting on a wheelchair inside Liverpool’s dressing room with all the Reds’ stars surrounded him.

The Reds stars gave the cup to Zakaria to lift, garnering the praise and respect of football fans worldwide.

Earlier on Saturday, Liverpool held their nerve to win the FA Cup for the first time since 2006 after a dramatic penalty shoot-out against Chelsea.

Veteran Egyptian sports journalist Hassan Mestikawi was one ofthose who praised the British team’s gesture by saying: “Initially, I supported Liverpool because of Salah, but now I support them for celebrating with Moemen Zakaria, who was very happy in the party.”

“I also support Liverpool because they play wonderful football under the leadership of superb coach Klopp,” Mestikawi added on his Twitter page.

Zakaria started his senior football career in 2009 with Egyptian Premier League team El-Entag El-Harby before joining Masry in 2011.

He then joined Enppi in the 2012 season before wearing Zamalek’s jersey on loan in 2013.

He finally reached his peak after joining Ahly in the 2015 season, making 93 appearances and scoring 30 goals with the Red Devils.

He won many domestic trophies with Ahly, including the Egyptian Premier League title in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, along with the Egypt Cup in the 2016-17 season, and the Egyptian Super Cup in 2015 and 2017.

Zakaria also made 12 appearances with Egypt national team, with his last appearance in a professional game being in 2018.
