The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced last week that the final game will be held in Morocco on 30 May sparking controversy and anger in Egypt.

After securing their spot in the final on a 6-2 aggregate win against ES Setif, Ahly held an emergency board meeting on Sunday to discuss the matter.

Despite being in dispute with CAF over the “unfair [decision] that was announced at a late stage of the competition. The club will play in the CAF Champions League final no matter where the game is held,” a statement read on the club’s website.

Ahly have also said that they will continue proceeding with their complaint to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), requesting the game be held in a neutral venue to ensure justice between the competitors.

“The club is looking forward to having the support of the national and international organisations in correcting what has been happening and providing the best for football in Africa, regarding the competitions and venues. Our beloved continent that has produced some of the finest talents in the world deserves the best on all levels,” the statement added.

The club will also appeal to FIFA regarding the release of its international players for the June international break that will witness the first two rounds of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“The club will address FIFA regarding the call-up of the foreign players of Al Ahly SC to join their national teams on 30 May, the starting date of the CAF Champions League final, which was announced by CAF on all its official platforms,” the statement read.

Ahly have already announced earlier on Sunday that they received formal call-ups for Tunisia’s Ali Maaloul, Mali’s Aliou Dieng and Mozambique’s Luis Miquissone.

The African giants are aiming to win an unprecedented hat trick of Champions League titles and a record-extending 11th title.
