Ahly's Senegalese striker Aliou Badji has joined Amiens on a permanent basis after ending a one-year loan spell with the French second-division side, the Cairo giants announced on Saturday.

"Amiens have taken up the option of signing Badji on a permanent basis … and all the procedures of his transfer have been completed," Amir Tawfik, who oversees Ahly's signings, said on the club's official website.

Badji joined Ahly from Austria's Rapid Vienna in January 2020 but was unable to hold down a regular place, scoring just four goals in 25 appearances.

He was loaned to Turkey's Ankaragucu a year later but also failed to impress before sealing another loan move to Amiens last summer.

The 24-year-old scored 14 goals and provided three assists in 31 appearances with Amiens in all competitions last season.

In a separate development, Ahly said Mohamed Mahmoud, a promising central midfielder whose start with the club was ravaged by serious knee injuries, has been handed a new five-year deal.

The 24-year-old joined Ahly from Wadi Degla in January 2019 but ruptured cruciate knee ligaments twice. He has been used sparingly this season, making just three substitute appearances in all competitions.
