The 31-year-old is under a contract with Saudi club Ittihad Jeddah that will expire in the summer of 2023.

“Hegazi? No, I didn’t talk about him with the club management,” Gonias told TV Channel MBC on Tuesday.

The international defender has just returned to action after around three months of absence due to a serious muscle injury that he picked up while playing with Egypt in the African Cup of Nations earlier this year.

Hegazi missed the Pharaohs' 1-0 win over Guinea in the Nations Cup qualifier, as the team’s medical staff opted to give him the chance to resume his rehabilitation program in Spain.

Hegazi, who is a product of Ismaily youth teams, has become one of the important defenders in Egyptian football, having played with several teams such as Ahly, Fiorentina (Italy) and West Bromwich (England).
