Just one day after the death of his brother, first choice goalie Yehia insisted on playing for the Alexandria-based club, but sadly his net received five goals. Just eleven minutes before the final whistle, the player asked the technical staff to quit the pitch following the severe chants by the club fans.

The 34-year-old Yehia left the pitch while weeping amid clear support from his teammates and technical staff members of both Ittihad and Ceramica Cleopatra.

“Thanks Egypt football fans for the support. After Thursday’s incidents I decided to quit football permanently,” Yehia said in a statement via facebook.

Many football fans, coaches and players showed huge support for Yehia through social media in the past hours after the aggressive attitude of the fans despite the player’s personal loss.

Premier League granted Yehia the player of the week prize, heaping praise on his determination to help his teammates despite the loss of his brother.

“Keep your head up Yahia,” the Premier League said in a statement via facebook.

The loss left Ittihad at tenth place of the league table with 28 points from 24 matches, 26 points behind leaders Zamalek.
