“I hope we can avoid injuries and suspensions in the team’s squad, as it could halt our campaign in the Egyptian Premier League,” Ferreira told a press conference after the 2-1 win over Smouha on Sunday.
Zamalek continued their relentless pursuit of a second straight Egyptian Premier League title after two well-taken goals from Ahmed Zizo and Seifeddine Jaziri gave them an easy 2-0 home win over Smouha on Sunday.
“The players have managed to develop their performance so that Zamalek can continue contending for the title… We will wait to see what our opponents, Ahly and Pyramids FC, do in the league’s tight schedule,” the Portuguese coach added.
He also said that Zamalek are “depending on the more experienced players — Shikabala and Islam Gaber — to lead the younger players in the pitch.”
Zamalek, fresh from beating Ahly 2-1 in the final of a delayed Egypt Cup edition, are continuing their steady march towards the title under the stewardship of canny Portuguese coach Ferreira, who molded the team into a harmonious unit.
“Winning the Egypt Cup title was a significant achievement, and we have returned to the league competition with zeal and achieved victory over Smouha thanks to the players efforts,” Ferreira added.
Zamalek are scheduled to face Future FC in the 27th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League on Thursday.
The Whites are in the driving seat of the Egyptian Premier League’s table with 60 points, four ahead of Pyramids FC and nine clear of third-placed Ahly, who have two games in hand.
