The future of coach Ricardo Soares will be under the spotlight when Ahly, who lost the Egyptian Premier League title for a second straight season, meet Enppi on Wednesday amid reported internal divisions.

Members of a newly-established company that oversees football affairs at Ahly suddenly stepped down on Tuesday, with reports indicating that they fell out with the club's board and chairman Mahmoud El-Khatib over the fate of Soares.

The Portuguese coach arrived less than two months but failed to spark a revival at the ailing club, who won only seven matches out of 14 under his guidance, drawing five and losing twice.

He could be excused for having to field a second-string team, including some youngsters, to comply with a decision from the club's board after the team had lost hope of competing for the title.

However, many of Ahly's demanding supporters feel the team had not made enough progress under Soares, who succeeded the highly-successful Pitso Mosimane.

"The most important thing for me is the future of Al Ahly," Soares said following the 0-0 draw with Ismaily on Sunday.

"Throughout the past period we identified our weaknesses and are now looking to fix those weaknesses in order to enter the new season in the best shape and form."

Ahly's arch-rivals Zamalek won the league for the second straight season with three games to spare after nearest challengers Pyramids lost 1-0 to Future FC on Tuesday.

Pyramids' defeat revived Ahly's hopes to avoid finishing out of the top two for the first time in 39 years.

Ahly lie third on 64 points, four behind second-placed Pyramids, who played a game more.
