Portuguese coach Ricardo Soares
Struggling Ahly lost 1-0 in their last league game against Talae El-Gaish on Saturday, amid local reports that the Reds’ board agreed with Soares that Tuesday’s match be his last with the team.
Soares came in mid-season succeeding South African coach Pitso Mosimane who helped the team win two consecutive African Champions League titles.
However, Soares’ agent told the local media that the coach will continue with the Reds through the next season.
Ahly will end the season in third place with 67 points for the first time in 30 years, behind champions Zamalek who have 77 points, and second-place Pyramids FC who have 71 points.
Since their title chances, faded the Reds have played young players and reserves in order to give regular starters a break after playing their third season in a row without a proper inter-season break or pre-season preparations leading to numerous injuries in the squad.
That won't change against Ceramica Cleopatra and put an end to this season to forget.
