“We renewed the contract of Zizo until 2025 without a release clause,” Mansour told Zamalek’s TV channel without disclosing details.
In recent weeks, the future for Zizo with the White Knights was thrown into doubt amid reports of interest by the French side FC Nantes in signing the player and rumours of interest from the Red Devils.
Zizo had an exceptional season, winning the Egyptian Premier League top scorer with 19 goals while providing 14 assists to teammates in order to catapult the White Knights to their 14th league title.
The in-form winger, who joined Zamalek in January 2019, has been under contract with the White Knights until 2024 with a release clause estimated at €2 million.
In the hours leading up to the announcement of contract renewal, Zizo denied any possible move from Zamalek to archrivals Ahly and affirmed that he wanted to stay with his club.
“My first choice is to remain at Zamalek. I respect the club. I won’t insist on activating the release clause to leave,” Zizo told MBC Masr TV channel.
“Players join clubs like Ahly or Zamalek in search of trophies, money and fame. I am writing my own history at Zamalek. I don’t see any reason to leave the club," he said.
Zizo, who played 23 games for the Pharaohs, told MBC Masr that he received lucrative offers from Turkish, German and English clubs, explaining that Liverpool star winger Mohamed Salah has advised him to play abroad.
"Even if I played abroad, I will return to play for Zamalek,” he added, replying to a question about the possibility of signing with Ahly.
