National Bank of Egypt (NBE) club announced Sunday the signing of former Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal for three years in a free transfer.

The 33-year-old became a free agent at the end of the last season after his deal with Zamalek expired last month. He reportedly signed a contract with Saudi side Al-Nasr, but the latter refused to finalise the deal.

The former Enppi goalie made 21 appearances with Zamalek last season and received 21 goals as he kept a clean sheet in 10 games with the Whites.

Abou Gabal, who started his professional career with Enppi in 2010, became Zamalek’s first-choice keeper following his impressive displays at the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon earlier this year, in which he was instrumental in Egypt’s journey to the final, where they lost on penalties to Senegal.

The international keeper, who goes by the name of Gabaski, has not been included in the squad announced by Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria for the September camp.

It is the second signing for NBE Club during the ongoing summer transfer window as they signed Pyramids FC defensive midfielder Ahmed Tawfik.
