New signings boost Zamalek squad for Egyptian-Saudi Super Cup in Qatar

Zamalek coach Jesualdo Ferreira has included new signings Moroccan midfielder Zakaria El-Wardi and Senegalese winger Ibrahima Ndiaye in the White Knights squad for the game against Saudi side Al Hilal in the Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup (Lusail Super Cup) on Friday in Qatar.

The game between the Egyptian league champions and the Saudi league champions will be played in the 80,000-capacity Lusail Stadium.

The Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup is a friendly game that was held on three previous occasions - 2001, 2003 and 2018.

This edition was named after the Lusail Stadium that will host the final game of the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Zamalek won the title twice in 2003 and 2018 after beating the Saudi sides Al Ittihad and Al Hilal, respectively.

On 23 August, Zamalek announced the signing of El-Wardi, 24, from the Moroccan side Raja Casablanca and Ndiaye, 24, from the Swiss side Luzern to the fill gaps that resulted from the departure of key players such as key midfielder Tarek Hamed and Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki this summer.

Under the guidance of Ferreira, 76, Zamalek were crowned with the league title for the second successive season .
