Zamalek defender Mahmoud El-Wensh Hamd
“VAR helped bring justice, that’s why we won the league in the previous two seasons. Fairness in Arbitration gives us the advantage of settling many matches,” El-Wensh said in an interview on MBC Masr TV channel.
“We have a capable coach and the players had spirit and determination, but justice gives you your right in full and gives you victory in many matches. We played two seasons without taking vacations, but we made the fans happy in the end,” he added.
The 27-year-old defender has been one of the White Knights’ main pillars, especially in the last two seasons. He offers a consistent outstanding performance, which also made him one of the starting defenders at the Egyptian national team.
When he was asked about joining rivals Ahly, El-Wensh said, “I’m very happy with Zamalek and the fans are supporting me strongly. If I decided to leave I would join a club that adds to and appreciates me, and it will be through the Zamalek board.”
El-Wensh also praised his Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira who came in the middle of the season to find three stars leaving the team. However, he managed to achieve great results with players from the youth team.
“Ferreira is a coach with a vision, a technical point of view, and diversity in tactics. This gives us the advantage, he has a keen focus on the small details that decide matches,” El-Wensh explained.
Zamalek flew to Qatar to participate in the Lusail Super Cup which is played between the Egyptian League champions and the Saudi League champions, Al-Hilal. The match is held as part of the opening ceremony of Lusail Stadium which will host the World Cup later this year.
