Future could not take the few chances they created to settle for a draw, although they will still be favourites to advance when they host Bul in Cairo in the second leg next weekend.
The club made a fine impression on their first Egyptian Premier League appearance last season, finishing fifth in the table, behind fourth-placed Talae El-Gaish on goal difference.
They have so far rejected the overtures of Cairo giants Ahly and Zamalek to keep their prized assets as they aim to mount a serious challenge for the Confederation Cup title.
Ahly made no secret of their desire to sign Future midfielder Mohamed Reda while Zamalek tabled a bid to land Egyptian international wing-back Omar Kamal.
Both have featured against Bul, making them ineligible to take part in the African Champions League this season should they move to Ahly and Zamalek.
