Zamalek announced Sobhi's return on their social media channels but did not reveal further details.
The news will come as a surprise after Zamalek's eccentric chairman Mortada Mansour said recently that Pharco had exercised an option to sign the 23-year-old on a permanent basis.
A clause in Sobhi's loan deal stipulated that Pharco can sign him if they pay EGP 23 million (around $1.2 million) to Zamalek.
The promising goalie's return will come as a boost to Zamalek following the departure of Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed Abou-Gabal, who joined NBE Club after his contract with the White Knights had expired.
In Abou-Gabal's absence, Mohamed Awad, who used to be his understudy, produced a series of impressive displays to play a key role in helping Zamalek defend their Egyptian Premier League crown last season.
Awad is likely to retain his number one spot, with Sobhi expected to be his backup.
Zamalek have so far made two summer signings, acquiring the services of Senegalese forward Ibrahima Ndiaye and Moroccan midfielder Zakaria El Wardi.
