The Red Devils' announcement came three days after Club Bolivar confirmed that Savio was heading to Cairo for $1.5 million.

Ahly did not disclose the transfer fee but said Savio had penned a three-year deal. They also said in a statement that they have an option to prolong the player's stay for a further year.

Ahly, who are looking to bolster their squad after another disappointing season saw them finish third in the Egyptian Premier League, also signed deep-lying forward Shady Hussein from fellow top-flight side Ceramica Cleopatra on Monday.

Savio enjoyed one of his best seasons last term, scoring 16 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions as Club Bolivar won the domestic league title.

The 28-year-old also had stints with several Brazilian sides including Guarani, Bragantino, Cuiaba and America Mineiro. All in all, he netted 33 goals in 141 appearances.

Ahly's attack has misfired in a season to forget. Mohamed Sherif, who was the league's top scorer in 2020-21 with an impressive haul of 21 goals, could only score seven goals last term after suffering a stunning dip in form.
