Wigan made no secret of their desire to land the 23-year-old but could not reach an agreement with Enppi, especially that Gad has not earned enough international caps to be eligible for a British work permit.

Gad was also linked with summer moves to Egyptian Premier League clubs Zamalek and Pyramids FC.

He is the ninth player to join Masry during the summer transfer window as the coastal club are looking to rebuild their team under the guidance of former Egypt coach Ihab Galal.

Gad produced a string of fine displays with Enppi last season to catch the eyes of ex-Egypt coach Carlos Quieroz, who selected him as his third-choice keeper for the Africa Cup of Nations early this year. He didn't make any appearances in the tournament.
