Preview: Shikabala, Ashour return as Zamalek seek to complete passage to Champions League group stage

Ahram Online , Friday 14 Oct 2022

Zamalek talented midfielders Mahmoud ‘Shikabala’ Abdel-Razek and Emam Ashour were named in Zamalek’s 22-man list that will face Flambeau du Centre of Burundi in the second leg of the African Champions League Round of 32 at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab stadium on Friday.

The duo missed Zamalek’s 1-0 win in the first leg that took place also in Alexandria, on 9 October, as both clubs agreed to play the tie in Egypt.

They are now declared fit for playing after recovering from a minor muscle injury.

Overwhelming favorites, the Whites couldn't live up to the expectations claiming a narrow win against their rivals.

The team seemed toothless and the winner came from a Hossam Abdel-Meguid's header converting a corner kick.

The return of Ashour and Shikabala would boost the team’s attack and gives the team coach many options in his front line.

New-signings Zakaria El Wardi, Ibrahima N’diaye and Mostafa El-Zennari who played in the first leg kept their place in the team squad for Friday’s clash.

International defender Mahmoud ‘El-Wensh’ Hamdi is still out with a muscle injury.

Thus, the team is expected to deliver an entertaining show on Friday to satisfy their fans.
