Ahly were given a boost before facing promoted Aswan in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday after key winger Percy Tau was included in their squad following a lengthy layoff.

The South African has been out of action since sustaining a hamstring injury in August.

Tau has been hampered by a series of injury problems since joining Ahly from English Premier League club Brighton in the summer of 2021.

However, he remains a key part of Ahly's squad as the club look to increase their creative options in the final third. They have already signed Brazilian forward Bruno Savio in the close season to bolster their frontline.

Ahly, who lost the league title to nemesis Zamalek in the past two seasons, kicked off the new campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ismaily on Wednesday, thanks to a goal from new arrival Shady Hussein.

"Every win gives the team great motivation. We missed several chances today, but we are working on correcting our mistakes. We want to score all the chances and not miss any," Ahly's new coach Marcel Koller told the post-match news conference.

The Red Devils will be hoping to make it two wins out of two at the expense of Aswan before meeting Zamalek in the Egyptian Super Cup on Friday.

Aswan, who signed a host of players in the close season after sealing promotion, including Gabon striker Malick Evouna, lost 1-0 to Ittihad of Alexandria in their opening game.

Ahly will miss winger Taher Mohamed Taher after he received a straight red against Ismaily for a challenge on an opponent from behind.
