After claiming a narrow 1-0 win over Aswan in the Egyptian Premier League late on Sunday, Ahly coach Marcel Koller blamed the players’ concentration for the lacklustre performance, confirming he needs more work to do with the team.

“We had more missed passes alongside losing more score chances during the game,” Koller told the post-game press conference.

“We need to do more work to improve the players’ concentration during the coming games to avoid the continued missed passes and to avoid losing the big number of scoring chances,” the 61-year-old Swiss coach added.

A first-half penalty from Ali Maaloul helped Ahly maintain their winning start to the season with a 1-0 home victory over newly-promoted Aswan in their second Egyptian Premier League game.

Aswan missed a chance to even the score up when Gabonese striker Malick Evouna, an ex-Ahly man, forced a superb save from keeper Mohamed El-Shennawi with a stinging volley from inside the area.

“Every player on the pitch has to concentrate during the game but finally we achieved the victory and I am happy with it,” Koller said.

The win will boost Ahly's morale before they meet perennial Cairo rivals Zamalek in the Egyptian Super Cup on Friday.

“I no not prefer to think about any next game before finishing the ongoing mission as the current game is more important than the next,” the Ahly coach added.

“We have a big squad and it is better for the team to make changes,”

“The season is still long and we will do our best to introduce the best of our performance during the coming games as we are developing ourselves,” Koller said.
