Ahram Online , Tuesday 1 Nov 2022

Egyptian representatives in the Confederation Cup Pyramids FC and Future FC will be looking to edge closer to the competition’s Group stage when they play the first-leg of the third preliminary round away from home on Wednesday.

Pyramids FC

Pyramids FC will face Nigelec of Niger while Future FC will take on Angolan side Primeiro de Agosto.

After routing Sudanese side Hilal Al Sahil 9-0 on aggregate in the previous round, Pyramids FC will have another easy mission on Wednesday when they face Nigelec.

Despite the absence of some of their key players with the like of Abdallah El-Said and Ibrahim Adel, they are not expected to face a major challenge against the champions of Niger.

Nigelec were relegated to the Confederation Cup after losing in the Champion league second preliminary round to Moroccan side Raja de Casablanca 3-0 on aggregate.

With the likes of Ramadan Sobhi, Walid El-Karti, Blati Toure and Fakhreddine Ben Youssef, the Egyptian representative is widely favorite to advance to the next round.

Pyramids FC have three previous participations in the competition with their best achievement came in 2019 when they reached the final before losing to Moroccan side RS Berkane.

On the other hand, debutant Future FC will have a tough task against an experienced Angolan side Primeiro de Agosto who switched to the Confederation Cup after losing to Simba of Tanzania 4-1 on aggregate.

Primeiro de Agosto are looking for their first continental title as their best achievement was in 2018 when they reached the semi-final of the Champions League before losing to future champions Esperance de Tunis.

The Egyptian representative produced a convincing performance during the past round when they defeated Kallon of Sierra Leone 6-0 on aggregate but their mission against an experienced side like Primeiro de Agosto will not be easy.

Coach Ali Maher will rely on his international players Omar Kamal and Mohanad Lashin in this tough clash and to earn a positive result in this first leg to make their mission easier back home a week later.
