Zamalek striker Amr Zaki is doubtful for the derby with Ahly in the CAF Champions League group stage on 22 July due to injury, the Whites said in an official statement on their official website on Monday.
"The recent scans revealed that Zaki is still suffering from a knee injury and that his chances to play against Ahly are very limited," the statement revealed.
Zamalek, who lost 3-2 to Ghana's Chelsea in the first round of the continental championship, will start a closed camp on Wednesday to prepare well for this Sunday's encounter with their arch rivals.
Cairo foes Ahly and Zamalek will face off at the Military Academy Stadium behind closed doors, due to lingering security concerns.
The last time they met in Africa’s premier club competition was in 2008 when they drew 2-2 in the group stage. Ahly went on to win a record-breaking sixth title, one ahead of Zamalek.
