The Cairo giants have a big chance to snatch the team table lead when they take on El-Gaish, as the Red Devils are in second place with a full mark of nine points after playing three games, one point behind current leaders Ghazl El-Mahalla.
Ahly, who finished last season in third place, are expected to seek revenge for last season’s poor result against Talae El-Gaish, as the Reds failed to beat the military side in two games when the first leg game finished with a goalless draw before losing the second leg 0-1.
With Egypt having failed to qualify for the World Cup, the league's competition committee opted to hold several rounds during the ongoing showpiece in Qatar as it seeks to avoid another drawn-out season.
Ahly will do without Tunisian international left-back Ali Maaloul, as he is part of the Carthage Eagles' squad for the World Cup.
Ahly needed a shootout to survive a scare from Arab Contractors and reach the Egypt Cup semi-final following a 1-1 draw at Cairo's Al-Salam Stadium last week.
“I’ve made changes to the team’s lineup as we expect to suffer from the busy fixture in the coming period and I don’t want to lose the services of any player,” Ahly coach Marcel Koller told the post-game press conference.
Talae El-Gaish are in 10th place on the league’s table with four points after playing three games so far this season.
Ahly will face Ghazl El-Mahalla on the sixth matchday of the league on Wednesday.
