The draw that took place in CAF headquarters in Cairo set Ahly once again against stiff opponents Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in Group B alongside Sudan’s Al-Hilal and Cameroon’s Coton Sport.
Meanwhile, Cairo rivals Zamalek came in Group D with other heavyweights Esperance Tunis of Tunisia, Algeria’s CR Belouizdad and Sudan’s Al Merrikh SC.

Meanwhile, five-time Champions League winners Zamalek booked a place at the same round after passing Burundi's Flambeau du Centre with a 6-1 aggregate win.
Ahly lost last edition of the Champions league after losing 2-0 to Morocco’s Wydad in the final.
