Egypt icon Hossam Hassan was named as Masry’s coach for the fifth time, the Port Said-based club announced on Wednesday.

The 56-year-old will replace former Egypt manger Ehab Galal, who parted ways with the club last month after a few matches in charge.

Earlier this month, Masry named Tarek Soliman, a regular member in Hossam Hassan's technical staff, as an interim coach before bringing in Egypt's all-time leading scorer.

Masry made a poor start to the season as they lie fourth from bottom in the Egyptian Premier League table with six points from six games.

Hassan, who enjoyed a glittering playing career with the Egyptian national team and Cairo giants Ahly and Zamalek, returns to the club he led on four other occasions.

He kicked off his coaching career at Masry in the 2007-08 season and had another brief spell in charge of the club in 2011-12.

His third spell was his longest and most successful at Masry, having led the team from 2015-18.

He took charge of the team for his fourth stint in May 2022 before leaving the club at the end of the season after his contract expired.

Hassan helped Masry finish fourth in the Premier League and reach the Confederation Cup semi-final in 2018. He was close to domestic glory a year earlier when the Green Eagles reached the Egypt Cup final, only to lose 2-1 to Ahly.

He had also spells at several other Egyptian league clubs, including Zamalek, Pyramids FC, Smouha and Ittihad of Alexandria.

Masry will face Harras El-Hodoud on Friday.
