Masry's fiery-tempered coach Hossam Hassan was fined by the Egyptian Football Association's competitions committee for breaking a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) monitor during a league game against Aswan last week.

The EFA's competitions committee said on Sunday Hassan was fined EGP 100,000 (roughly $4,000) for smashing the VAR monitor's screen during Masry's 2-1 loss to Aswan on Thursday.

It also said he has been ordered to pay for the damages. The amount will be specified within a week, the committee said in a statement.

"The coach will be automatically suspended if he fails to pay the fine in due time. The punishment will also be doubled in the event of a repeat," the statement read.

Hassan was enraged after Aswan were awarded a penalty, saying VAR should have interfered. However, he vehemently denied breaking the VAR monitor, insisting that there is no single photo or video showing him doing so.

Egypt's all-time leading scorer is no stranger to controversy, with his bad temper often landing him in troubles.

Last month, Hassan took over at Masry for a fifth stint following a poor start to the season. The Port Said-based club lie 11th in the table with 11 points from 10 games.
