Pyramids FC tweeted the arrival of Pacheco on Thursday just a few hours after dismissing Greek coach Takis Gonias following a bitter 3-0 loss to Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League.
The big-spending club is still looking for their magic formula after positive signs with 51-year-old Gonias, as he took over as Pyramids coach for a second spell in April last year, helping them finish as runners-up in the league for their best-ever position.
However, the team failed to make the needed impact this season and the defeat against Ahly proved to be the last straw for Gonias who leaves the team at the fourth place after 11 games with 20 points, seven adrift of leaders Ahly.
Gonias, with his style of possession football, will be replaced with a defensive-savvy boss.
This is the third stint for Pacheco in Egypt following two spells with Zamalek without winning any title.
Pacheco, 64, coached Zamalek in 38 matches during his two stints, winning 25, tying in eight, and losing five.
Pyramids FC will face Ghazl El-Mahalla on Saturday but the Portuguese tactician is set to make his debut with the team against Future FC on Wednesday.
