Ahly completed the signing of Ittihad's central midfielder Marwan Atteya on Tuesday for their third acquisition in the January transfer window.

Ittihad said in a statement they had accepted an offer from Ahly for Atteya after the Cairo giants had tabled the highest bid for the highly-rated midfielder. The transfer fee was not disclosed.

As part of the deal, Ahly's out-of-favour midfield duo Ammar Hamdi and Mohamed Mahmoud will head to Ittihad on six-month loan deals, with an option to make the moves permanent at the end of the season.

Atteya, who was also subject of interest from Ahly's arch-rivals Zamalek, has made 11 appearances so far this season, scoring once and providing an assist.

Ahly have been active in the January transfer window as they seek to bolster their squad to wrestle the Egyptian Premier League title back from arch-rivals Zamalek, who were crowned champions the past two seasons.

The Red Devils have already signed Tunisian youngster Mohamed Dhaoui and Smouha's full-back Khaled Abdel-Fattah.

They are also still in the market for a new striker, having pulled out of a deal to sign Portugal-based Ghanaian striker Abdul-Aziz Yakubu after he failed a medical.

Ahly top the league table with 30 points from 12 games, four ahead of second-placed Future FC and five clear of Zamalek in third.
