Ahly, whose three new signings could make their debut, will have a chance to extend their lead on top of the Egyptian Premier League when they meet Masry in Alexandria on Thursday.

With nearest challengers Future FC and Zamalek dropping points on Wednesday, Ahly will go six points clear at the summit if they overcome Port Said-based club Masry.

Future played out a 1-1 draw with Pyramids while defending champions Zamalek were held to a goalless draw by Ittihad to extend their winless run to three matches.

Ahly top the table with 30 points from 12 games, three ahead of Future and four clear of Zamalek with a game in hand.

The Red Devils have been uninspiring recently though, prompting the club's board to make some robust moves in the January transfer window to strengthen the team's squad before they head to Morocco for next month's Club World Cup.

They signed Tunisian youngster Mohamed Dhaoui, Smouha full-back Khaled Abdel-Fattah and Ittihad's highly-rated midfielder Marwan Atteya.

The trio could make their first appearance against Masry, who are buoyed by their recent fine run under coach Hossam Hassan, having won their past two games at the expense of Dakhleya and Ittihad.

Masry lie eighth in the league table with 17 points from 12 matches.
