The White Knights slumped to a heavy 3-0 loss to archrivals Ahly in the Cairo derby on Saturday, losing more ground in the title race.

The defending champions failed to earn any win in the Egyptian league since the new year started, losing two games and holding in another two to fall to fourth place on the league table with 26 points, eight points behind leaders Ahly.

They also lost on penalties to Pyramids FC in the Egypt Cup semi-finals, exiting the competition.

Hours after the loss in the Cairo derby, Zamalek President Mortada Mansour said on Saturday that the club's board will hold a meeting to discuss the coach's future, with several reports suggesting that he will lose his job.

The club announced on Saturday that the meeting was postponed to Sunday afternoon, but there has been no news so far.

Zamalek will have a tough mission on Tuesday when they visit Ghazl Al-Mahalla, as the team will be looking to end their four-game winless streak.

The Portuguese coach, who helped Zamalek win the domestic double last season, was severely criticised due to the team’s poor performance and results this season.
