Ahly football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz revealed that keeper Mohamed El-Shennawi has turned down lucrative offers from Championship side Wigan and Saudi giants Al-Nassr.

"El-Shennawi has received several offers recently including from Wigan and Al-Nassr. El-Shennawi rejected all those financial temptations and opted to stay with Ahly, which reflects his love for the club and value for the team and the fans," Abdel-Hafiz was quoted as saying on Ahly's official website.

Since joining Ahly in 2016, the veteran skipper has been one of Ahly's key performers, playing an instrumental role in guiding the Reds to a host of titles, including back-to-back Champions League titles in 2020 and 2021.

The 34-year-old international keeper, whose contract expires in 2025, is currently in Morocco with Ahly to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Wigan, which plays in the English second tier, has been looking for a keeper since last summer when they tabled a bid for Egyptian goalkeeper Mahmoud Gad but could not reach an agreement with Enppi.

Saudi side Al-Nassr, who hired super star Cristiano Ronaldo earlier in January, were also in the market for a keeper following the injury of Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina. They hired Argentinean shotstopper Agustin Rossi from Boca Juniors last week.
