The 33-year-old midfielder played the full 90 minutes of Ahly's 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the tournament's semifinals on Wednesday but suffered a muscle strain in his calf, the club doctor, Ahmed Abo Abla, said.

"He will miss the match against Brazilian Flamengo for the bronze medal," he added.

"His treatment program is scheduled to start on Friday in Tangier, Morocco," he concluded.

Ahly played in the semifinals of the prestigious tournament for the third time in a row, after beating Seattle Sounders of the United States 1-0 on Saturday.

Ahly have already claimed three bronze medals in the 2006, 2020 and 2021 editions and they are willing to claim it again after losing the chance to play in the final.
