Preview: Classy Ahly face Sudan’s Al-Hilal in CAF Champions League group stage

After finishing fourth in the FIFA Club World Cup 2022 earlier this month, Ahly are set to face the Sudanese side Al-Hilal in the second round of group stage in the CAF Champions League away from home in Sudan on Saturday.



The game will be played in Omdurman behind closed doors due to sanctions from CAF against the Sudanese side.

Group B also includes Cameroon's Coton Sport and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.

last week, Al-Hilal lost their first game in the group stage against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Meanwhile, Ahly’s first round game against Cameroon's Coton Sport was postponed due to their participation in the Club World Cup.

On saturday, Ahly will have to do without injured duo of Brazilian forward Bruno Savio and veteran key midfielder Amr El-Sulaya.

Ahly booked their place in the continental tournament group stage after beating US Monastir of Tunisia 4-0 in the second preliminary round on aggregate.

Al-Hilal booked the same spot after defeating Young Africans of 2-1 in the same round on aggregate.

In Sudan, Al-Hilal are leading the domestic league table with 44 points.

In Egypt, Ahly are also leading the domestic league table with 37 points with three games in hand.
