Zamalek extended their winless run in the prestigious continental tournament after losing to Esperance of Tunisia 2-0 in the third round of the group stage at Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi on Saturday.

“The chance of reaching the quarterfinals is still alive despite the loss to Esperance,” Ferreira told the post game press conference.

The Cairo giants will be in a must win situation in the remaining three games in order to qualify from Group D as they will face Esperance at home on Tuesday 7 March then will travel to Algeria to play CR Belouizdad on 17 March before hosting Al-Merrikh of Sudan in their final groupstage game on 31 March.

“There are still 9 points to grab. We just finished the first half of the group stage and we haven't yet delivered our performance,” the Portuguese coach added.

Esperance are in the driving seat of Group D with a full mark of nine points, Al Merrikh are second with four points, CR Belouizdad are third with three points and Zamalek come last with only one point.

Zamalek opened their campaign in the group stage with a 1-0 loss to CR Belouizdad at home then tied with Al Merreikh 0-0 away.
