Second-place Pyramids FC played out a goalless draw with Zamalek in the 20th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League on Friday, failing to keep up pressure on Ahly in the league summit.

With the draw, Pyramids FC, the Egyptian League black horse, lie in second place in the table with 39 points.

Meanwhile, Zamalek, the the two-time defending champions, lie in fifth place with 33 points as the team continues a string of poor performances since the start of the year.

The draw leaves the Red Devils in the driving seat on top of the league with 41 points despite playing three games less.

Safe but not sound!

The two teams played it safe during the first half and both failed to create any clear scoring chances.

Pyramids FC coach Jaime Pacheco looked to his bench to find some offence, calling up talented winger Ibrahim Adel to replace Mahmoud Saber and Ahmed Tawfik who came in for veteran defender Ahmed Fathi.

Adel and Tawfik livened their team's frontline somewhat but their efforts were suspended by a cemented Zamalek defence with their alert goalie.

On the opposite side, Zamalek coach Jesualdo Ferreira called up newly signed winger Nasser Mansi and Ahmed Belhaj to create some offence of his own but both failed to find the nets.

Sobhi saves the day

Down the stretch, Pyramids FC’s frontline dominated but failed to score.

Substitute Fagrie Lakay headed a superb ball from inside the area but Zamalek’s goalie Mohamed Sobhi stopped it.

With time running out, Mohamed Hamdi came close to snatching the lead for Pyramids FC when he sent a long shot from outside the area but Sobhi made another superb save.
