The Cairo giants missed six key players during the 3-0 win over Cameroonian visitors Coton Sport on Saturday in Cairo.
They were dealt another injury blow as striker Mohamed Sherif had to leave the game and was replaced by Shady Hussein just past the half-hour mark.
“Sherif suffers from a painful injury, but not a serious injury, so he will be fit for the Arab Contractors league game on Tuesday,” Abu-Abla told a television programme early on Sunday.
Swiss coach Marcel Koller had to rotate his squad as Mahmoud 'Kahraba' Abdel-Moneim, Hussein El Shahat, Mahmoud Metwally, Ahmed Abdel-Kader, Amr El Sulaya and Khaled Abdel-Fattah have been ruled out with injuries.
“Medical scans showed that El Shahat suffers from a muscle strain and he is performing his rehab program, but we have not yet determined his return date,” the Ahly’s doctor added.
The 10-time African Champions stayed third in the Group B ranking with four points, trailing Sundowns, who lead the group with seven points, and Sudan's Al-Hilal, who are second with six points. Coton Sport are currently at the bottom of the group without any points.
Ahly are scheduled to face Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday in a game the Red Devils need to win to keep their hopes of reaching the Champions League quarterfinals alive, before flying to Cameroon to face Coton Sport in the fifth round of the group stage.
“We have not taken any official decision over the situation of the injured players with regards to joining the crew that flies to South Africa and Cameroon,” Abu-Abla added.
“El Sulaya is expected to return to trainings in a few days after recovering from a muscle injury,” the Ahly’s doctor added.
“Khaled Abdel-Fattah and Ahmed Abdel-Kader sustained the same knee injury, but scans showed it is minor and are we are following up on their rehab program to determine their situation,” Abu-Abla said.
“Mahmoud Metwally is confirmed to miss Ahly’s trip to South Africa, as he suffered from back muscle problems,” Abu-Abla added.
“Mahmoud Kahraba sustained a minor muscle injury and he will be fit for the games in the coming few days,” the Ahly doctor said.
