Ahly vs Sundowns - A long rivarly
The match will mark the 14th time the two teams have faced each other in their history.
On Saturday, Ahly will be looking to achieve their first victory against Sundowns in South Africa, which has not been accomplished in 22 years.
Despite their impressive record in the African Champions League, Ahly have never won against Sundowns in their six previous visits to South Africa.
The hosts have won twice, and the derby has ended in a draw four times.
The first meeting between the two teams in Pretoria dates back to 2001, and the match ended in a positive 1-1 draw.
After a 12-year absence, Ahly and Sundowns faced off again in April 2019, with the hosts winning 5-0, which was the Red Devils' heaviest defeat in their history of visits to South Africa.
Since then, the two teams have faced each other three times, with two matches ending in a 1-1 draw, while Sundowns won last season's clash by a goal without reply.
Staying Alive!
Tomorrow, the Red Devils will also be hoping to keep their hopes of reaching the quarterfinals alive with a positive result in the match.
Ahly's defense will be key to their success in the match as they aim to keep Sundowns' dangerous attackers at bay.
Sundowns will be looking to build on their impressive home form and secure a crucial win against Ahly to close in on a quarter final appearance.
Ahly's trio of Ahmed Abdel-Kader, Khaled Abdel-Fattah, Percy Tau, and Amr El Sulaya have all been cleared to play after recovering from their injuries. However, Hussein El Shahat and Mahmoud "Kahraba" Abdel-Moneim remain doubtful for the game despite travelling to South Africa with the team.
Ahly coach Marcel Koller expressed his confidence of achieving a positive result and that all the players are fit for the game.
"We know that the game against Sundowns will be difficult but we proved in the first game that we were tough opponents," Koller said.
"We weren't satisfied with the first game's result so we are searching for a positive result tomorrow."
After finishing the Sundowns game, the Red Devils will fly to Cameroon to face Coton Sport in the fifth round of the group stage
A positive result against Sundowns will give Ahly the much-needed momentum in another must-win game against the Cameroonians.
