Ahly have accepted on Wednesday to release team’s duo Mohamed Abou Treika and Emad Meteb for Egypt’s U-23 after the team succeeded to reach the Olympic football quarters.

Egypt U-23 will face Japan on Saturday in the Olympic football quarters while Ahly will host Ghanian side Berekum Chelsea on the same day in Cairo in the CAF Champions League quarter finals.

Abou Treika and right-back Ahmed Fathi were instrumental in Hany Ramzi’s squad at the Olympics, while striker Emad Meteb has not convinced yet.

“After discussing with coach Hossam El-Badry and Club’s president Hassan Hamdy, we decided to release the three players despite their importance in Ahly’ squad who will play in the Champions League on the same date,’’ Ahly’s football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz told his club official website on Wednesday.

Mohamed Abou Treika, Emad Meteb and Ahmed Fathi is playing with Egypt’s U-23 national team in the ongoing Olympic Games as over-age players.

Fathi could not play with Ahly in the African encounter in any case due to two successive yellow cards.

“Ahly want to confirm that the national interest is a priority for the club.”

Ahly are now top of Group B with six points, two ahead of second-placed Chelsea who have four points.
